LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds College women's basketball earned a sweet Valentine's day victory on Wednesday night, using a late fourth quarter push to down the Shoreline Dolphins 70-61.
The Tritons have now assured themselves of their first postseason appearance since the 2009-10 season. It's a major feat, and one that has been building for the past three seasons since Josh McLeod took the reigns of the program as interim head coach just days before the team's first game in 2021. The 14-year drought is officially over.
Edmonds (14-7, 8-2 North) did it without freshman guard Alexa Munoz and sophomore point guard Maggie Salas. Munoz has been out since the game against Bellevue January 27 and has no timetable to return, and Salas was injured in practice earlier this week. Keira Slippern picked up the slack. The sophomore poured in 21 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and had 4 steals. Dreanna Jackson scored 15 points, dished out 4 assists, and had 4 steals herself. Jada Walters chipped in 12 points and Natalie Brown added 11 points.
It looked as though foul trouble was going to be an issue as they started to stack up in the third quarter, but Edmonds hung in and closed the game on a 13-3 run. The team heads to Skagit Valley on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Mount Vernon.
