LYNNWOOD -- Another strong defensive effort was the mainstay in Edmonds one-point win over Skagit Valley Saturday night in Seaview Gym. After leading 30-22 at the half, Skagit made a late push in the fourth quarter and pushed a lead of their own to four, but Edmonds' defense stood tall to get stops in the final minutes.
With the game tied, Maggie Salas grabbed the rebound and raced up the court, drawing a foul with just three seconds left. It was the fifth on the Cardinals which put the Tritons into the bonus. Salas hit the first free throw, which ended up being the deciding point. Skagit inbounded the ball twice, but Edmonds denied both chances to end the game. Jada Walters led the team in scoring with 18 points and added 9 rebounds. Natalie Brown continued to be a presence in the paint and poured in 9 points with 11 rebounds. Maggie Salas tallied 11 points and dished out 7 assists.
The ladies will hit the road on Wednesday, January 24 for another region clash against Whatcom CC in Bellingham.
