Triton women's hoops draws Pierce in Championship Tourney opener
For the first time since the 2009-10 season the Edmonds College women's basketball team has qualified for the NWAC Championship Tournament. Plodding their way through the North Region schedule, the Tritons put together two impressive win streaks -- one of six, and the current run of five straight. The team has learned how to close out games late (aided by strong shooting from the charity stripe), used their athleticism to their advantage, with the backbone of their success rooted in their relentless defense. All nine players see meaningful minutes and will be a key in Pasco.
Three sophomores were tabbed to the North All-Region Team on Sunday: Sopohomore Natalie Brown was selected to the All-Defensive Team, sophomore Keira Slippern made the 1st-Team, and sophomore Jada Walters joined her on the 1st-Team. All three had stellar seasons which helped the team earn a postseason berth.
Edmonds (18-7, 12-2) gets the 6 p.m. game on Saturday, March 9 against the Pierce Raiders (12-14, 8-4), the 3-seed from the West Region. The two teams clashed back on December 3 with Pierce topping Edmonds 66-60. The Raiders are coming off two wins over South Puget Sound and Centralia.
We need your support over the weekend! If you can, make it east of the mountains to Columbia Basin College and support this special squad.
