EVERETT -- It came down to the wire, but the Edmonds College men's basketball team pulled out the victory over No. 10-ranked Everett on their court to win their region opener. In the early going it seemed Edmonds might pull away. The Tritons built a lead as large as 17 points but in true rivalry game fashion, Everett fought back in the second half and turned the contest into a back-and-forth affair over the final six minutes. In the end they withstood the surge, 88-85.
Edmonds hot start was mainly attributed to their sharp shooting; they finished with a healthy 54.5% shooting percentage. The offense stalled in the second half as the Trojans gained momentum, but sophomore Chris Lee stepped up when it mattered and was responsible for the last four points. He also came up with two blocks in the final minutes to help secure the triumph. Lee netted 27 points and added 9 rebounds along with 3 swats. Adonai Daniel was successful driving to the paint and notched 17 points off the bench. Naser Motley chipped in 10 points, Josiah Pierre scored 10 points, and Nuer Bol had 9 points.
Everett had a chance to tie the game at the end of regulation, but the prayer fell short. Edmonds (11-5, 1-0) hosts Peninsula on Saturday, January 10 at 4 p.m.
