Five-run 7th propels Triton Baseball past Dolphins
LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds baseball hung in and exploded for five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to knock out Shoreline 7-3 on Monday night.
The Dolphins scored two runs in the third inning but starting bump Chihiro Sato wiggled out of jams and hurled six frames, fanning seven, and allowed three runs total. Edmonds got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Cole Murawski left the yard with a missile into the netting in left field. Shoreline added a run in the top of the seventh, but reliever Aidan O'Neil was able to limit the damage.
After one-out singles by Noah Albanese and Camden Gillespie, Murawski delivered again, this time with a 2-RBI knock that tied the game at 3-3. Levi Joyce kept the rally going with an opposite field double that scored Murawksi, and Cooper Barrow matched Joyce with a double that plated Joyce. Gillespie came to the dish for the second time in the inning and drew an RBI walk to push the Triton lead to 6-3. Barrow's second double of the game gave Edmonds an insurance run in the eighth, and Luke Moisant nailed down the final two outs to shut the door.
Lucas Christensen finished 3-for-5, Cole Murawski was 3-for-4, and Levi Joyce was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two runs scored off the bench. Cade Slayton added two hits. Sato collected his first win in his first start. The game was rescheduled from Friday after rain postponed the back end of the originally scheduled twinbill.
On Saturday the Tritons split in Mount Vernon at Skagit Valley. They dropped the first game 9-1 but bounced back to take game two 9-3. Cooper Barrow had two hits in the loss and added three more hits in the game two win. Game two highlights: Tyler Hogan was 3-for-5; Lucas Christensen 2-for-5, 3 RBI, 3B; Cole Murawski 2-for-4. Matthew Britton tossed 6-plus innings for the win and Paxton Fenburg closed out the final 2 1/3 innings.
Edmonds defeated Shoreline 5-4 on Friday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off. Cole Murawski's infield single scored the winning run. Lathan Haywood threw eight strong innings in that contest.
Sophomore righty Lathan Haywood has been the most consistent starter so far, followed by Britton. Minus a tough start at Skagit Saturday, Eli Knowlton has also pitched well. Luke Murawski, who leads the team with a .415 average, has paced the offense. Lucas Christensen (.304) has been swinging a hot bat of late, and Cooper Barrow has upped his average to .300. Cole Murawski's strong region-opening weekend has him tied for the most RBIs on the club with Noah Figurered at 14.
Edmonds (9-8, 3-1) has two road trips coming up this weekend. Saturday they travel north of the border to face Douglas College and Sunday they visit Bellevue. All North Region doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
