Doughty's blast sparks comeback win; Edmonds takes three from Bellevue

LYNNWOOD -- With a furious come-from-behind victory in the series finale, Edmonds College baseball was able to secure the series win, taking three of four games from Bellevue this weekend.

Game 4: Down 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Logan Blank and Cole Murawski earned walks which set the stage for Chanz Doughty's two-out three-run blast to deep left field which knotted the game up at 5-5. Doughty was 3-for-4 in the game. Peter Herrick entered from the bullpen with one out in the eighth inning, taking over for Cade Stuart who spun 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Herrick was able to induce a double play that ended the Bulldog threat. In the top of the ninth, Herrick worked around an error, single, and hit by pitch to strike out the side and keep the game tied up. He would eventually collect the win as the Tritons rallied in the home half of the inning. Cole Murawksi led things off and was hit by a pitch, Blake Conrad walked, and Chanz Doughty dropped a perfect bunt down the third baseline to load the bases. With a 1-2 count Levi Joyce was hit by a pitch and the Tritons walked off the Bulldogs 6-5. Logan Blank was 3-for-4 and scored two runs and Chris Rogers was 2-for-4.

Game 2: The day started at Triton Field with the completion of a halted game (second in the series) from Saturday night at Courter Field. Inheriting runners at second and third base with no outs in the eighth inning, Bellevue was able to score three runs to complete the two-day victory, their only of the series, 8-6. Logan Blank went 4-for-5 in the game, and Sheldon Egger provided a solid outing (from Saturday), hurling 5 2/3 frames allowing just two earned runs. Both teams played sloppy defense, committing four errors each.

Game 3: Levi Joyce's RBI sac fly was all starter Lathan Haywood needed as he cruised through eight innings to notch the win. Matt Capel tossed the ninth as the Tritons downed the Bulldogs 5-1. Cole Murawski (2 RBI) and Michael Snyder collected two hits apiece, and Cole Watterson scored twice.

Game 1: Edmonds won the opener 6-3 on Saturday behind another consistent Will Franklin start on the bump. The sophomore right-hander went seven innings, giving up just two runs and two hits before handing the final two innings to reliever Peter Herrick. Cole Watterson led the way with three hits; Luke Murawski had two knocks. Five different Tritons logged RBIs: Watterson, Murawski, Snyder, Blank, and Conrad.

Edmonds (19-14, 10-6 North) beat Bellevue (18-21-1, 11-9) in five of six games this season, which could end up being a big deal as postseaon jockeying comes into play the final two weekends.

No. 3-ranked Everett (26-10, 14-2 North) is up next on Saturday, May 5.
