LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds College baseball was able to salvage the series against Lower Columbia in the series finale on Saturday, 4-2. The Tritons lost two games at Lower Columbia Friday, 9-3 and 4-3, and dropped the first game on Saturday in extra innings 4-3.
Game 1: The defending champion Red Devils held a 2-1 advantage after the top of the fourth inning, and then extended their lead with a three-spot in the bottom half of the frame and held on the rest of the way for a 9-3 triumph. Chris Rogers collected two hits (2B) and Cole Watterson swiped three bags on the basepaths.
Game 2: The second game was a tighter contest, but single Triton runs in the fifth and sixth innings weren't enough. Edmonds tallied five hits total, two of them coming from Michael Snyder. Cole Watterson stole two more bases, and Camden Gillespie had a solo home run in the sixth. Cade Stuart hurled four innings of scoreless ball. The Red Devils prevailed 4-3.
Game 3: Starter
Will Franklin walked two in the first inning, and those free passes came back to bite him as they both scored later in the inning. Franklin settled in after the first frame, and held the Devils to just one more run, going six innings; he fanned six batters. The Triton offense had scoring opportunities in the third, fourth, and eighth innings, but could only muster three runs as timely hitting and situational hitting was unsuccessful. Those three runs came in the bottom of the eighth after a balk was called and a
Logan Blank double was lost in the sun to left field. LC scored the winning run in the top of the tenth on a ball that made it's way past the infield. Blank was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, and
Luke Murawski collected two hits to up his average to .326.
Eli Knowlton was the tough-luck loser after working 3-plus innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Game 4: A quick offensive start spotted the Tritons three runs, capped by a
Chris Rogers RBI double in the third frame.
Cole Watterson later scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning that pushed the cushion to 4-2, which ended up being the final score.
Lathan Haywood threw six innings, allowed just two runs, and punched out seven batters, scattering five hits to earn the win.
Matt Capel worked a clean seventh to record the save. Rogers was 2-for-3 at the plate.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak -- all to West Region opponents Tacoma and Lower Columbia. Edmonds (9-8) will now look ahead as North Region action begins on Saturday, March 23. Skagit Valley (6-9) visits Triton Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
