Triton baseball falls to Tacoma over the weekend

The Tacoma Titans showed why they are one of the top teams in NWAC baseball over the weekend. Tacoma (8-1-1) took all four games from Edmonds (8-5) to sweep the non-region series that was played Friday and Sunday.

At Tacoma Friday, Edmonds lost a close 3-2 ball game in the first one before dropping the nightcap 10-5. At a rainy Triton Field Sunday, Tacoma won both games 11-9 and 14-7.

Game 1: Tacoma scored two in the bottom of the first before Matthew DelVecchio settled in to go five innings. The Tritons scored one run in the fifth and six innings but were only able to muster two hits.

Game 2: The Triton bats woke up for seven hits -- two from Tyler Hogan who also drove in 3 runs -- but a seven-run Titan seventh was the difference. Chanz Doughty slammed a solo homer in the sixth inning.

Game 3: Edmonds jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but Tacoma answered to scored two runs in the second and third frames. Edmonds regained the lead in the seventh inning, but Tacoma rallied again with three runs in the top of the ninth to seal the comeback victory. Cole Murawski was 3-for-6, brother Luke Murawski went 2-for-4, Blake Conrad had two hits, Camden Gillespie knocked a 2-RBI double, and Chanz Doughty slugged his second home run of the series.

Game 4: Tacoma continued their hitting barrage and plated eight runs after the first three innings. They finished with 14 hits in the game as the Triton offense tried to play catchup. Cole Murawski stayed hot with three hits (two doubles) and Chanz Doughty had two doubles as well. Camden Gillespie was 2-for-3 and Blake Conrad scored 2 runs and tallied 2 RBI.

Next up is another tough test against the defending NWAC champion Lower Columbia Red Devils (9-1). Edmonds will start their final non-region series in Longview on Friday before returning to Triton Field on Saturday. Both doubleheaders will start at 12 noon.
